Home My GLP-1 Journey

My GLP-1 Journey

I lost 25 lbs this summer. DHO has had a significant impact on my health both mentally and physically, that along with life, traveling full time for the past 3 years and the dreaded peri menopause.

I took a step back from DHO this summer to focus on myself and I learned a lot during my weight loss journey and I want to share that story with you.

While I was in Kentucky for the Derby everyone raved about Tirzepatide aka Mounjaro. Out of complete and total frustration from losing the same 10 lbs on repeat, and trying hormone therapy, I decided to give it a try.

I owned a very successful fitness company in Canada and I have NEVER seen anything like this! Taking Tirzepatide was absolute LIFECHANGING for me!

I know, those of you who already know will say I am late to the game but for those of you who haven’t this is for you.

🌟 Part Two: I Lied 🌟

I have a confession to make… I lied.

When I first went after GLP-1s, my BMI wasn’t technically “high enough” to qualify as obese. So I bent the truth on my telehealth questionnaire to gain access.

Looking back, here’s what I’ve learned: there are doctors who will actually microdose GLPs for women in perimenopause to help fight stubborn hormonal weight gain. The catch? You have to find a doctor who’s willing to work with you.

👉 For those curious about the science, here’s the quick breakdown:

  • Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy): Works by targeting the GLP-1 receptor, helping regulate appetite and blood sugar.
  • Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound): A dual agonist—it activates both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, giving it a synergistic effect for weight loss and metabolic control.
  • Retatrutide: The newest player, a triple agonist—GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors, currently in trials and showing even greater potential results.

After digging into the research and my own body’s needs, I chose Tirzepatide—and it was the right move for me.

At the time, I wasn’t interested in hunting down that unicorn. I wanted something fast and accessible. So I picked a telehealth company that would let me pay with my HSA. The price? $900 for a 3-month prescription.

👉 One week later, I had my first appointment with a doctor. Within days, I was holding my very first shipment.

Here’s what came in the box:

  • A month’s worth of Tirzepatide (compounded with B12, which made it this weird red liquid that looked like it could stain everything).
  • A prescription for Zofran, in case I got nausea.
  • And a whole lot of hope.

Spoiler alert: I never needed the Zofran. No nausea for me.

But let me be honest—working with that telehealth company? 🚨 Total trainwreck. 🚨
The process was disorganized, communication was a nightmare, and I only lasted three weeks before I started looking for another option.

And those first three weeks? Oh, they were interesting.

🌸 Part 3 – I Took the Shot! 🌸

I’ll be honest—there was a lot of anxiety leading up to this moment. Everywhere you turn, there are people who’ve never taken a GLP peptide making sweeping claims about how “horrible” it is for you… all based on a single headline and without any real data. Of course I was nervous. Who wouldn’t be?

But I decided to trust the people who were already walking this path. The ones sharing real experiences, not clickbait. Their advice?
✅ Eat a high-protein meal first.
✅ Take the shot at night, so if nausea hit, I’d sleep right through it.

The injection itself? Surprisingly simple. The shot comes in a tiny insulin needle, and you can inject it in your stomach, thigh, or the back of your arm. I chose my stomach, took one deep breath… and did it.

Then came the waiting game.

✨ Within 24 hours, something unbelievable happened, the “food noise” was gone. ✨
I didn’t even realize I had it until it disappeared. Suddenly, I wasn’t thinking about food every second of the day. I could finally focus on my projects, my goals, and actually live without being distracted by cravings.

Here’s what I did to support the process:

  • Ate my usual 100 grams of protein daily (same as before).
  • Drank plenty of water.
  • Added electrolytes (another tip from the GLP veterans online).

The results? Steady, sustainable progress, 1 to 2 pounds a week. For the first time in years, it felt like my hard work in the gym and my healthy choices were finally being rewarded. The psychology of that win was HUGE. Before, I constantly battled discouragement when my effort never seemed to pay off.

And the side effects? NONE. Just the benefits I was desperately hoping for.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. My biggest challenge that first month wasn’t the medication at all… it was the absolute disaster that was my telehealth clinic. 😬

🌸Part 4 – When It All Fell Apart 🌸

Three weeks in, things started to go wrong.

I was carefully drawing my tiny compounded dose of Tirzepatide from the vial. Just a few little units, later I discovered it was even less than the standard recommended starting dose. And yet, I was paying $300 a month for it.

As I pulled the insulin syringe out, some of the precious liquid leaked. My stomach dropped. Would I even have enough left for a full 4th week?

When I asked my telehealth provider for help, I was shocked. I’d heard Eli Lilly sometimes sends an extra dose in situations like this. But my clinic? Flat refusal. No early refill. No replacement. Nothing.

So I did what I could, I split the remaining dose in half and waited.

But the next shipment never showed up.

The clinic’s auto-responder, the one that’s supposed to remind patients to rebook every month, never emailed me. By the time I figured it out and scheduled another appointment, the earliest available was 10 days away. Add a few more days for shipping, and the month I had just invested at 2.5mg was essentially wasted.

💔 My progress, my momentum, my motivation, everything was about to slip away.

In that moment of complete frustration, I went down the rabbit hole of the internet, determined to figure out how to get my hands on Tirzepatide fast.

And that desperate search? It became the turning point. The step that would change everything…

👉 It’s the reason I’m sharing my story. It’s the reason I dove headfirst into the world of peptides.

🌸 Part 5 – Down the Rabbit Hole 🌸

When my GLP-1 supply ran dry, I started searching for a new solution. Instead, I stumbled into something much bigger…

🐇 I went down the rabbit hole and found the grey rabbit: Peptides.

Here’s what I learned: peptides are short chains of amino acids—the very building blocks of proteins. They act like messengers in the body, regulating everything from recovery to metabolism to overall wellness.

Now, I’ve always been obsessed with amino acids—for myself and even for my horse. But peptides? They’re the Ferraris of amino acids. 🚀

They can be used for practically everything:
✨ Need to recover faster?
✨ Fighting off sickness?
✨ Hungover?
✨ Low energy?
✨ Horse show anxiety?
✨ Want sharper focus, better skin, thicker hair?

There’s a peptide for that—and so much more.

It truly felt like Alice in Wonderland discovering a whole new world.

And then came the realization that changed everything: the weight loss medications are just peptides—amino acids that corporations have poured billions into marketing and then passed the costs on to consumers.

The real challenge wasn’t whether peptides worked—it was figuring out where to buy them safely.

Suppliers ranged from:
🚫 The creepy guy in a van.
🚫 Gym bros mixing powders in their kitchens.
💸 Expensive research labs charging triple what’s necessary.

And I kept asking myself: “Would I trust the bathroom in their house?”
For most of them, the answer was a hard no.

So I dug deeper. I learned what separates good peptides from dangerous ones. I studied Certificates of Analysis (COAs)—the lab tests that confirm purity and quality. They’re the gold standard, the #1 thing that makes peptides safe to use.

After hours of research, I finally found a vendor I trusted and placed my first order. To my surprise, an entire month’s supply cost me less than $150.

And since I was saving so much compared to telehealth, I added in some energy-boosting peptides too!

🌸 Part 6 – The Results That Changed Everything 🌸

The results I was seeing in just a few short months blew me away. My energy was back, my focus was sharper than ever, and I finally felt good in my body again—for the first time in years.

It wasn’t just the number on the scale. It was the confidence, the mental clarity, the calm. My workouts felt easier, my recovery faster, and my skin even started to glow.

I felt so good, I wanted to shout it from the rooftops!

But instead, I did something even better…

🐴 I started a company called Pink Pony Peptides.

Because athletes all over the world are biohacking their bodies to perform at their peak—so why aren’t we, in the equestrian world, doing the same?

For me, this journey was never about quick fixes. It was about taking back control of my health and performance—and helping others do the same.

If you’re curious about peptides, recovery, energy, or simply optimizing your wellness, come join me inside the Pink Pony Learning Lab—where I’m sharing everything I’ve learned and continuing the conversation with others who are ready to level up their lives.
