Guns, Riots and Death Threats at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon
While the rest of the state is concerned about evacuating for a hurricane the Princes and princesses over at the World Equestrian games are stirring up their own drama. After years of running the show by their own subset of rules in Wellington, Florida, the Mark Belissimo ownership group has finally met their match with the Chef D’equipe for the UAE endurance team who is also a credentialed 4* judge named Ahmed Al Hammadi.
When things started going wrong at the endurance races at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon he took to a live stream on Facebook to document what was happening. We have seen similar moves play out in Wellington during the season. The first response is to shut down the media so there is no evidence of their wrong doing, however, because this man, who is a legend in my mind, knows the rules and all of the ins and outs he is not only willing to call the officials out on their wrong doing , he was also willing to stand his ground when security and police came over to attempt to stop the cries of outrage and frustration from the riders that mounted throughout the day.
So to summarize the events, in the morning, due to lack of organization and preparation several of the riders were directed off course.
The decision was made to restart from square one, meaning riders who had already put in 40km’s would have to redo that section of the race which is not a small task in the heat and terrain of the smokey mountains of North Carolina.
The officials and management at Tryon stood their ground even after several acceptable suggestions were made as a compromise.
In the end the afternoon heat was too much and the officials cancelled the race entirely.
This video shows the anger, the tears and the frustration of riders who have worked for years and spent millions of dollars to get one shot at this championship title.
